With movies like “The Secret” and “What the Bleep Do We Know?” understanding that we create our own reality is getting to be mainstream thinking, and many are learning that our beliefs are the single most powerful force that influences the creation of that reality. Beliefs determine how we see our lives and everything around us. They influence our thoughts, our emotions, our expectations, our actions, and our over-all well being. So just what are Beliefs? According to the dictionary, they are “the mental acceptance of and conviction in the truth, actuality, or validity of something”. Your belief system, along with your level of consciousness, determines what you will experience in your life.
WHERE DO BELIEFS come from? According to Dr. Bruce Lipton, PhD, cellular biologist and author of “The Biology of Belief”, most of our beliefs are in place by the time we are 5 or 6 years of age, and some of our “core” beliefs, things like whether or not we think the world is a friendly place, can be “programmed” while we’re still in the womb. Our beliefs come from interactions with our parents and the people around us during childhood, our religion, community, or any traumatic event. We don’t usually consciously choose what beliefs to hold. We soak them up from our life experiences when we’re too small to have any way of evaluating them, and they become core components of how we see ourselves, other people, and the world.
WE’VE ALL HEARD about the subconscious mind, but many people are stunned to learn that most of our behavioral and thought patterns are directed by it, not the conscious mind. Many years of research has shown that 95% or more of our behavior is controlled by the subconscious mind. While both parts of the mind are necessary for us to be fully functional, they are specialized in their capabilities and the way in which they process life’s experiences. Let’s take a quick look at the differences in the way they work. The conscious mind is volitional, the subconscious mind is habitual. The conscious mind sets goals, judges’ results and is limited to processing 1-3 events at once, or about 40 bits of information, the subconscious can process thousands of events at once, and MILLIONS of bits of information per second (for example, monitoring all body functions). The conscious mind thinks abstractly and has a memory of about 20 seconds. The subconscious, on the other hand, is very literal and is where your long term memory, attitudes, and values, and is also where BELIEFS are housed.
AS YOU CAN SEE from its processing capacity alone, the subconscious mind plays an important roll in your life. It is almost impossible for to achieve a goal if we hold subconscious beliefs that are in conflict with that goal, no matter what it is. Even if you do achieve it, the subconscious will usually find or create a way to sabotage your success. Your subconscious programming takes over the moment your conscious mind becomes distracted and stops paying full attention. The fact is, as adults, we spend most of our time subconsciously reacting to life rather than consciously creating it. Fortunately, there are many ways to change your beliefs at the subconscious level.
IT’S NO SURPRISE by now to hear me say that beliefs limiting personal prosperity and career growth are frequently embedded in the subconscious mind. They are counterproductive to achieving wealth, financial freedom, public recognition or whatever personal career goal you might have and can also affect how fast you reach those goals. Beliefs such as “Money is the root of all evil” “Poverty is a virtue” “It’s not okay/safe for me to have money” or “I don’t deserve to have lots of money” are self-limiting when it comes to meeting your financial and career goals. Many people feel guilty about wanting or having money, or they believe that making money is hard, and for them it most certainly will be. Beliefs can not only impede the accumulation of money; they can undermine the management of money. If you spend it as fast as or faster than you make it, or make one bad investment decision after another, it’s very likely that you have self-limiting subconscious beliefs about money.
IN ADDITION to limiting beliefs about money itself, beliefs that sabotage your self-esteem are often involved in your inability to move forward and reach your career goals. Your self-esteem profoundly influences how others view you. If your self-esteem is high, others will tend to like and trust you, and if your self-esteem is low they are more likely to respond with a lack of confidence and trust in you. Your beliefs teach the world how to treat you, and you know by now that the majority of them are subconscious. Another aspect of self-esteem is the concept of unworthiness. Some world religions teach us that we are fundamentally unworthy, and this is far too often unwittingly enforced by our parents who were taught the same when they were children. Regardless of where they come from, such beliefs held on a subconscious level will most certainly create limitations when it comes to achieving your career goals.
THE METHODS taught by self help books and lecturers to reach our desired goals are to use positive thinking, positive self-talk and lots of affirmations. These are all good methods but must be used for weeks, months, or sometimes years to gain results. There is another option though! With PSYCH-K® belief change protocols it is fast, easy and painless to “overwrite” your self-limiting beliefs with ones that support you. PSYCH-K offers the following benefits:
• Most belief change “balances” are completed in 3-5 minutes.
• It is unnecessary to dig around in the past trying to find the unwanted beliefs.
• Permission protocols are always used to ensure the appropriateness of overwriting something within the subconscious.
• Immediately after the “programming” has taken place, it’s checked to confirm the new belief on a conscious level.
• Sessions can be done over the phone.
• With the help of a facilitator, you can create very specific custom goals/beliefs and “program” them into your subconscious, stacking the deck even further in favor of accomplishing your career goals.
