. Bringing the Body, Mind & Spirit into Balance I graduated from the Utah College of Massage Therapy in 1980 and have been providing massage services since then. Below is a list of the types of massage that I offer and a brief description of each. You can see rates for all services offered here. Swedish Massage Regular massage sessions can improve virtually every facet of your body’s functions. During a massage, muscles relax, tension slips away, circulation and nervous function improve and you leave feeling renewed, relaxed and refreshed. When most people think of massage, they think of “Swedish massage”. Swedish massage is a classic western massage technique which combines kneading and long smooth strokes to improve circulation and relax and loosen muscles. The techniques applied in Swedish massage are gentle and rhythmic. Therapists use a combination of kneading, rolling, vibrational, percussive and tapping movements, usually accompanied by the application of oil, to reduce friction on the skin. Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissue of lactic acid, uric acid and other metabolic wastes, and it speeds the venous return of un-oxygenated blood and toxins from the extremities. Even though the pressure can be relatively light, this treatment has many therapeutic benefits including: an increased blood flow, increased muscle tone, improved oxygenation to the muscles, and, of course, relaxation. For someone has never had a massage before, Swedish massage provides a great introduction. ** I also offer therapuetic, deep-tissue massage Reiki Sessions Reiki (Ray-kee) is a simple but profound system of natural healing based on eastern philosophy. Life Force Energy is the foundation of all life and is made up of external and internal life energies. Reiki helps the body and mind re-balance and cleanse the internal energies, promoting health and well-being. The technique involves hands being placed at various positions on the front and back of the body, with each being held up to 5 minutes. Reiki, only the open-mindedness of a positive outcome. Aromatherapy Massage Aromatherapy means "treatment using scents". Aromatherapists use therapeutic oil extracts from plants, flowers, trees, fruits, bark, grasses and seeds. There are approximately 150 essential oils, each having its own distinct therapeutic, psychological, and physiological properties. When inhaled, they work on the brain and nervous system through stimulation of the olfactory nerves. As we breath the scents, our brain releases chemicals that communicate with our nervous system to produce a calculated result such as relaxation, digestion, invigoration, or pain relief. Many of these oils have antiseptic properties; some are antiviral, anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, antidepressant and expectorant. I incorporate the use of oils that promote relaxation (such as Lavendar) and target the removal of toxins from the tissue and decreases inflammation. One of the blends I use also contain Helychrisum, which promotes quick regeneration of the cells in your body.
